We are pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement on a new three year contract between CWA and AT&T Midwest.  In these tough economic times, in the most economically depressed part of the country, we have reached an agreement that achieves our key goals:

1)  Maintained and improved our Standard of Living
2)  Increased Pension Band
3)  Enhanced employment security

There are changes in our health care that will result in increased out of pocket costs.  However, when wages and the new company-funded tax-free Healthcare Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs) are factored in, CWA members--from the highest paid to the lowest--are better off, on average, every year of this contract by thousands of dollars a year. Contract explanation is forthcoming, mean while here are some highlights on the key issues on new tentative agreement.

Contract Highlights

·        Contract is for three (3) years

·        Higher base wages (Retroactive to August 8th 2010)

o       Clerical

o       OCT

o       Premise Sales

o       Telephone Sales

·        Enhanced expense package for Sales – includes higher provisions for SMART phones and Iphones

Commission plan for Sales designed to grow and retain existing advertisers as well as new business

·        HRA established to defray health care costs

·        National transfer plan

·        Surplus language retains seniority clause

·        Improve language regarding MLK letter 17

9:20 am

Bargaining continued well into the early morning hours. Both sides agreed to take a little break, while waiting on additional information, and resume this morning. Although the contract has expired we are still hopeful we can reach an agreement, however, we must begin to prepare ourselves to take this fight to the next level should negotiations break off. We will update this site with any new developments.

Mobilization

Because the contract has expired the mobilization can not. It is more important than ever to show AT&T you want a fair contract.

12:30 am Sunday The Midwest contract between CWA and AT&T Yellow pages officially expired at 11:

The bargaining committee continues to meet with the Company with less than 10 hours to go. Stress levels are rising, but, they continue to push forward in hopes of reaching an agreement before the expiration. Your Union bargainers continue to remind AT&T, the members of CWA who work for AT&T are not just an employee ID, there is a real person behind each number.

The next report will be made when more news is available.

The Committee spent much of Wednesday in caucus, both reviewing issues and developing bargaining strategy that will move us forward. Meetings of the full Committee took place late in the afternoon where it seems the Company may have finally begun getting serious about trying to reach an Agreement before the expiration this Saturday at 11:59 p.m.

We have reached a critical stage in this bargaining and hope the Company will continue to engage with us on the important unresolved issues. We are ready and willing to work round the clock, if necessary, in order to reach an Agreement that is fair to all of our members.

Many Locals have stepped up their mobilization efforts, which is sending a signal to the Company, but many more Locals need to engage their members to support their Bargaining Committee.

Next report as developments warrant.
